Masterchef

About a year ago we went to a restaurant called Wahaca. They were filming a series called Masterchef.

Last night we were on tv. See if you can see me :)

Screenshot from the show, only a couple of seconds shot. I'll upload a youtube vid later.

Amsterdam

Short summary:

I had a great holiday.
Lana had a slightly worse holiday.

This may be due to the fact, I lost about a dozen hours on christmas eve, and was fairly shaky during most of christmas day.

According to Lana:

  • I ran out of a restaurant, after ordering, but before the food came.
  • I was grey, and shivering
  • I was sure I was "lost in time", as I kept seeing her naked, but remembering her putting on clothes (this was explained later as her trying to go for a shower, but I kept saying don't leave me)
  • Refused to sleep with the light off
  • Having to check I was still breathing

My recollections:

  • Going to the bathroom in the restaurant. Almost falling asleep down there
  • Paranoid as hell walking back to the hotel, everyone we passed was going to stab me
  • My entire body was operating 4-5 second slower than normal. I'd take a sip of water, and 4 seconds later feel the water.
  • Thinking I was dead and in purgatory
  • Being extrememly freaked out.

Apart from that, went to the Heineken brewery (which was great as I also got to drink Lana's beers), canal tour, lots of wandering around. But mainly lazing around in bed watching tv (Got an EEE PC, great buy. Perfect for travelling).

Had one good, very good meal at Le Pecheur. Best fish I've had in a long time (the sashimi wasn't great, everything else perfect). Had a bunch of other fairly shite meals (and all costing around £100 for both us due to the shite exchange rate).

Hotel we stayed at, SAS Radisson Amsterdam was great. Highly recommend it. Great staff as well. Apart from the window overlooking the lobby so everyone could see in.

BTW Lana, I'll make it up to you on another trip. Thanks for looking after me.

Oh yeah, I had a sauna for the first time. That was great.

And Lana got me a pipe for christmas. I've still got to get her a present....

Cholesterol update

First the good news. I don't have to take pills. It's still high, but better.

Before:

Serum HDL Cholesterol level = 0.99 mmol/L
Serum LDL cholesterol level = 3.87 mmol/L
Serum cholesterol/HDL ratio = 5.81

Now:

Serum HDL Cholesterol level = 0.88 mmol/L
Serum LDL Cholesterol level = 2.97 mmol/L
Serum cholesterol/HDL ratio = 5.38

So basically I have to continue as before. But of course I bought a steak to celebrate :)

So why is she with you?

Having lunch with the boys.

Thanh's girlfriend is in town. So we're talking about how some girls only go out with a guy for his money. (No real link there, just giving him grief).

So told him to test her by pretending he got sacked, lost all his money and decided to become a teacher (a noble profession, but pays shite). Then I said, "So why is she with you?".

Stunned mullet face. Then he asked me, "Why is Lana with you? She's hot and you're...".

I responded, "12 inches man."

Harshad replied, "Don't you mean 42 inches around the waist?"

Boom, tish.

Thank you, I'll be here all night.

The downside of the smoking ban

It's winter. It's cold. Pubs in London are designed to keep in the heat. So no air in, no air out.

The problem with no smoking now, is you can smell the farts.

Get a couple of beers into a bloke, his guts relax. And man, they stink.

There's been a few times lately where fights have almost broken out over the stinkier ones. The only problem is pining it down on a culprit.

Never thought I'd say this, but pubs need scented candles.
